Scout, a small girl from the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, shows us how adults have a worse concept of right and wrong, and how kids can do much more then you can think. The small southern town in the 1930’s accuses a black man named Tom Robinson of rape, and even though he is clearly innocent he is still convicted guilty. There is also a man named Boo Radley whom everyone is feared by because of the rumors spread around. Surprisingly, they are all lies and he is a good person, which Scout might be the only one to know it.
In the novel, Tom Robinson, an innocent black man is convicted rape of a man named Bob Ewell's daughter. There is a small family of three; Atticus the dad, Jem the son, and Scout the daughter. One night one of Atticus's co-workers asks him to take the case defending Tom agents Bob Ewell and his daughter. Even through Atticus knows that the town will give him and his family hell for taking the case, but he still does. “He seemed to be a respectable Negro and a respectable Negro world never go up into somebody's yard of his own volition." pg. 192. From this and a lot more evidence the Tom was not guilty; it shows how Maycomb Country's treats a black man by putting his life in danger when he clearly didn’t do it.
Through this novel Boo Radly leaves gifts at night for the kids, trying to be nice. Also, as some people are just plain scared of boo, Scout feels the same way, but knows that he is actually a nice person. Boo, in fact cares for scout. One night when Jem and Scout were walking home, Bob Ewell attacked and tired to kill them. Luckily, Boo was out that night and saved their lives by killing Bob Ewell before he could kill Jem and Scout. “Who was it?” “Why there he is Mr. Tate, he can tell you his name. “pg. 270. Scout was showing Mr. Tate who killed Bob Ewell when she saw Boo in the corner.
In Maycomb Country’s children and adults thought and opinions are much different. For instance, when adults were the jury and said tom was guilty, if it would have been the other way around then tom, without a drought would have been unguilty. “Well it’d sorta be like shooting a mocking bird, wouldn’t it?” pg. 276. To kill a mocking bird is a sin, because all they do is sing and don’t harm anything. The kids are the ones who feel that tom is the mockingbird and this tell us that kids in some cases are more intelligent than the adults.
